National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

  • 3. Implementing agencies– Directorate General of Training (Designated trades) and National Skill Development Corporation (Optional Trades)
  • 4. Objective–To Promote Apprenticeship Training
  • 5. Mission – Increase apprentices to 50 Lakhs by FY2030
  • 6. Backed by- The Apprenticeship Act, 1961

About NATS

It is a 1 year programme equipping technically qualified youth with practical knowledge and skills required in their field of work.

The Apprentices are imparted training by the organizations at their place of work. Trained managers with well-developed training modules ensure that Apprentices learn the job quickly and completely.

During the period of Apprenticeship, the apprentices are paid a stipend amount, 50% of which is reimbursable to the employer from the Government of India.

At the end of the training period, the Apprentices are issued a Certificate of Proficiency by the Government of India which can be registered at all employment exchanges across India as valid employment experience.

The apprentices are placed for training at Central, State and Private organizations which have excellent training facilities.

Establishment can take 2.5%-15% (25% for Maharashtra) of their total manpower (Contractual + Permanent) under NAPS

Stipends paid do not attract any statutory deduction/payment obligation on the part of the corporate/industry (No PF, No ESIC etc.). Hence, it is cost compliant

No possibility of union formation since apprentices are not employees/workers
